Shiner GASP Indeed!

Well, it was a busy, busy week heading into this year's Shiner GASP. I was unable to get in ANY training whatsoever, kids kept us up way too late, had to get up way too early -- but I guess that goes with the territory. We blasted off from Austin at 7 am with 85 miles to travel before reaching the Shiner Bock Brewery. The first 50 miles or so were great - got in with some fast groups and was averaging over 19 mph. Then, we turned right onto Highway 95 -- the highway from hell. Right into a 15-20 knot wind and a road so rough it rattled your fillings! The next 20 miles into Flatonia was brutal! I was able to lead a "fast" group - my heart rate was pegged at 190, yet we were only doing 16 mph. Everyone was shattered by the time they reached the rest stop at Flatonia. The last 15 miles to Shiner was the most miserable I've ever been on the bike. Period. Next year, when I contemplate doing this ride again, please refer me to this post, OK?
