Yes, I've been absent. Almost a month.
I have been VERY busy. Not much on the bike, but very busy anyway.
I thought January was a pretty dismal month on the bike - 197 miles. But, then I looked back 5 years and realized it wasn't that bad after all. In 2008, the year I was training for RAAM, I only rode 136 miles in January. In fact, the average miles for January over the last 5 years has only been 112 miles! So, January wasn't so bad.
February has been a different story. Lots of bad weather across the US as well as TX spelled lots of chaos for me as an airline pilot and a cyclist. Lots of reroutes and lots of sub-freezing days at home. So, I started renovating the boat -- and once I start something, everything else suffers. Although the bad weather has come and gone, I find myself working on the boat when I should be riding.
It will probably work out though. When I did the RAAM in 2008, my biggest miles came in Feb/Mar/Apr. I actually think I should have done big miles in Mar/Apr/May, so that's how it's gonna be this year. With the RAW beginning on 15 June, I will be able to taper the last two weeks and be ready to go!
But ... gotta get the boat finished!
