I know, I know. It has been more than a month AGAIN. I've been very busy.
Last time I wrote, I lamented my low miles in January. February was worse. Between the cold weather, my boat renovation, purchasing an Airstream trailer, and other various excuses, I rode ZERO miles in February!
The boat is still not finished, and I've put the Airstream in "ignore" status till after RAW. I can report some success in my training though -- even though my time on the bike has not been what I planned, my diet has gone well. As of today, I'm 160 lbs. which is down 23 lbs. since the first of the year.
I guess cycling is all about the strength-to-weight ratio (in flying we call it thrust-to-weight ratio). Whatever I can do to increase my strength pales in comparison to dropping 20+ lbs. I did not realize how significant the weight factor was until a few days ago. I decided to hit Kreuger Canyon on the way home. Kreuger is a very humbling severe climb and I've been avoiding it for quite some time now. I figured between my lack of fitness (due to inactivity) and lack of energy (due to lack of carbs), I was going to regret my decision .... BUT .... I flew up Kreuger and although I can't say it was easy, it was as easy as I've ever done it! Dropping the weight is a big deal.
So, all is well for this point in my training. The weather is finally warming up, the boat project is nearing completion, and I expect my fitness to continue to improve dramatically over the next few months.
It needs to because this picture is a part of my future -- the climb up to Time Station 1 - Lake Henshaw, CA.
