It's been a week of good news, bad news. The good news is I got a lot of "stuff" done. The bad news is I didn't get much done on the bike. Oh well; one step forward, two steps back, I guess.
We're planning a practice ride Sunday night to get Danny and Shannon up-to-speed on the RAW experience. Our practice will let Danny get used to the riding and exchanges, and Shannon will get a small taste of life in our support vehicle.
Consequently, I've been doing a lot. I decided on a route and then drove it in the X to map out the odometer readings, turns, elevations, etc. I also captured the GPS points. Armed with this info, I built some cue sheets just like we'll be using during the Race.
I loaded all the appropriate information in the GPS and checked it yesterday when I returned to the boat.
The XTerra got some much-needed attention. I purchased a kit to refinish the headlights which had frosted over -- they are really clear now! I also bought some of the high capacity headlamps and they also make a big difference. You can't have too much light for night riding, you know?
I also built my shelf for the back of the XTerra. It provides an extra layer of storage as well as putting items within easy reach of the back seat. We'll be able to put the massive inverter and at least two wheelsets under the shelf. On top, each of us gets ONE milk crate for our stuff. Everything else will have to go on top of the X in the car top cargo carrier.
I also reread the rules one more time and began work on a Cliff's Note version of the rules because we know how carefully everyone's gonna read the rule book, right?
So, not much training, but some good prep out of the way.
